Job Summary/Basic Function

The Manager of Strategic Communications for Annual Giving, Stewardship, and Donor Relations assists with the development, implementation, and assessment of a comprehensive university-wide strategic plan focused on donor acquisition, donor retention, and growing our culture of philanthropy. The incumbent serves as the primary stewardship contact for the entire university, comprised of more than 150,000 alumni, 20,000 students, 2,000 faculty and staff, and thousands of MTSU friends and donors. Additionally, the incumbent provides leadership and guidance based upon best practices to all college and unit-based Managers of Strategic Communications while managing assigned personnel. This position reports to the Director of Annual Giving, Stewardship, and Donor Relations. Occasional nights and weekends required. Experience in project management, event planning, and / customer service preferred.
Responsibilities Include:
- Providing feedback and assistance with the development and implementation of a strategic donor stewardship plan that appropriately acknowledges, recognizes, and engages all donors including but not limited to first-time donors, renewed/lapsed donors, recent grad donors, recurring gift donors, faculty and staff donors, Giving Day (True Blue Give) donors, planned giving donors, longevity-based donors, and major gift donors.
- Assisting the Director with tracking and improving donor retention rates.
- Working with development officers to coordinate stewardship efforts.
- Developing individualized stewardship plans for major gift donors.
- Developing and executing stewardship plans for Senior Gift donors, first-time donors, recurring donors, True Blue Give (giving days) donors, planned gifts, milestone lifetime gifts, and long-time donors.
- Assisting the Director with developing, implementing, and executing appropriate annual giving and stewardship follow up.
- Tracking and improving acquisition, growth, and retention rates for leadership annual giving, longevity giving, planned giving, and lifetime giving.
- Managing a comprehensive donor stewardship program that fosters meaningful connections with donors at all levels, including the oversight, growth, and enhancement of all donor recognition societies and events.
- Working with the Strategic Communications Coordinator to ensure prompt and effective communication to all donors.
- Working with Advancement Services to ensure effective ways of updating constituent contact information and maintaining data integrity.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders throughout the university, including Deans, faculty, and development officers.
- Referring leads to other development staff as appropriate.
- Staying abreast of current trends in higher education, fundraising, and stewardship.

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree required.

Required Related Experience

Three (3) years of experience in marketing, communications, sales, higher education, or project/event management, or comparable student work experience in Advancement or marketing.

Desirable Related Experience

Three (3) years progressively responsible work experience in managing marketing and strategic communications. Experience in marketing, sales, higher education, or project/event management. Strong analytical and data management skills. Passion for the university’s mission and a commitment to philanthropy.
