Job Summary/Basic Function
Perform a variety of work to include electrical, plumbing masonry, and carpentry in the maintenance, repair, rebuild, and new installation of buildings and grounds at various facilities/sites. Work involves installation and repair of water, electrical, sanitary sewage lines and irrigation, exhaust fans, sewer pumps, air compressors, replacement of belts and lubrication, dishwashers, electrical motors, frost free faucets, garbage disposals, grease traps (in cafeterias), lighting fixtures, lighting controls including photocontrols and timers, motor controls, multi-phase exhaust fan motors, power receptacles, and repair and installation of plumbing fixtures. Perform other related maintenance work requiring the operation of skid steer and attachments. Maintain and repair Deionized central water system; install and repair fused chemical piping; install and remove data loggers and check sensors; repair, test and install backflow devices; and repair sensitive scientific equipment to include boilers for environmental chambers, snorkel arms, and fume hoods. Perform other related tasks or special projects as assigned. Work locations include all university property, Guy James Farm, Swine Farm, Foundation Reception House, Beef Unit, Airport, and a major emphasis on Science related buildings. Emergency overtime and after hour callbacks required.
Required Education
High School diploma or High Equivalency (HSE) required.
Required Related Experience
Four years of direct experience with increasingly responsible building and plant maintenance work to include knowledge of electrical, plumbing, providing material take-offs for preliminary scheduling, masonry and concrete work, and carpentry, of which some experience must have been at the journeyman level.
Required License/Registration/Certification
Valid Tennessee drivers license required. Ability to obtain and maintain backflow testing certification and fused chemical piping certification within six month probationary period required.
Desirable Related Experience
Five years direct experience with increasingly responsible building and plant maintenance preferred. Two years experience at the Journeyman skill level preferred.
