Job Summary/Basic Function

Manager – Aerospace Communications and Outreach reports to the Chair for the Department of Aerospace. Responsibilities include all aspects of outreach services supporting the department's strategic plan and mission. Perform outreach, publicity, promotions, internal and external communication, and event management functions for MTSU's Department of Aerospace. Aid in the execution and management of the department’s strategic missions and goals. Act as the first point of contact for prospective students and families. Liaise with internal and external persons or organizations, including industry partners, prospective students, and community members, to create and manage events. Assist in the planning, scheduling, and executing of airport tours, school visits, air shows, career expos, and special events. Maintain, manage, and moderate department social media, websites, and other outreach services. Oversee the design of all departmental communications and marketing materials (emails, graphics, posters, etc.). Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and make decisions that support the mission and strategic plan and manage budget and financial expenditures. Interview, hire, train, schedule, and manage other members of the outreach team, including a team of Aerospace Ambassadors. Solicit, select, schedule, and equip volunteers for any Aerospace events, including but not limited to school visits, conferences, career expos, social events, and department meetings. Perform other related tasks and special projects as assigned.

Required Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Aerospace, or a related field. Four (4) years of directly related progressively responsible experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Required Related Experience

One year of social media management, public relations, organizational communication/marketing, or related experience is required. Internships or student workers/employment may be considered.

Required License/Registration/Certification

None

Desirable Related Experience

Prior experience within a university/college, or collegiate aviation, or aviation industry.
