Job Summary/Basic Function

The Director of the MTSU Child Development Center (CDC) is responsible for oversight and daily operations of the classrooms, staff and students connected to the Center. The Center is used for placement of practicum students, interns, observations, and occasional research during the fall and spring semesters of each academic year. The Center is NAEYC accredited and monitored by the Department of Human Services to meet child care rules and regulations. The Director works under the supervisor of the Early Learning Programs director and with the other College of Education early childhood programs, including but not limited to the Ann Campbell Early Learning Center, and Home & Community Based Early Intervention program (HCBEI). The director completes all administrative tasks related to the daily operation of the Center and maintaining the office; support, train, and supervise the CDC teaching staff and MTSU students and their duties to provide a play based, child centered learning environment; coordinate CDC registration and enrollment; communicate with parents and oversee parent activities; maintain inventory and Center facilities; develop and monitor the budget. With support for the ELP director, the CDC director will identify and pursue grant funding; maintain accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children as well as meeting state child care rules and regulations as defined by the state oversight licensing or regulatory agency (Department of Human Services or Department of Education); participate in Department and College of Education activities and perform related tasks or special projects as assigned.

Required Education

A Master level or more advanced degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Child and Family Studies or other field related with three years of experience working with young children and their families in an educational setting.

Required Related Experience

Three years progressively responsible teaching or supervisory experience in Early Childhood Education, birth through third grade. Demonstrated success working with young children and their families.

Desirable Related Experience

Two or more Four years progressively responsible experience as program administrator / director for a child care center, child development program, or educational program serving young children or teaching adults to work with young children; Experience in providing professional development to adults about early childhood topics; Experience working with children with disabilities or those identified as at risk; Experience in supervision and program management.

Desirable License/Registration/Certification

Teaching endorsement that includes pre-K as a grade level; 9 hours or more in business management coursework or business credential
