Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of Aerospace at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#101040) at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2025.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach classes in the Technology concentration, undertake collaborative and multi-disciplinary research within the department and university, and be actively involved in university and professional service.

Required Education

Applicants are required to meet one of the following three educational requirements by the appointment date.

  1. A terminal degree in aerospace engineering, aeronautical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering science, flight test engineering, aviation systems or a closely related field.
  2. A terminal degree in any field and a master's degree in engineering, aeronautical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering science, flight test engineering, aviation systems or a closely related field.
  3. A master’s degree in aerospace engineering, aeronautical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering science, flight test engineering, aviation systems, or a closely related field and four (4) years of full-time progressively advancing military or civilian responsibilities in aerospace engineering, flight testing, or closely related experience.

Required License/Registration/Certification

An FAA pilot certificate (Private, Commercial, CFI, or ATP) is required. Applicants without a pilot certificate must be willing to pursue and complete a pilot certificate within the first two (2) years of employment (subsidized by the university).

Other Desirables

Candidates who possess aerospace or flight-testing industry experience; collegiate teaching experience; the FAA CFI, CFII, and MEI certificates, or those with a doctorate or who are ABD in aerospace engineering, aeronautical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering science, flight test engineering, aviation systems, or a closely related field will receive special consideration.

NOTE: Applicants are also REQUIRED to submit copies of all FAA Certifications held uploaded as Other Document 1. Additionally, applicants are REQUIRED to submit unofficial transcripts showing the required graduate coursework uploaded as Other Document 2.
