Job Summary/Basic Function
Work performed in a variety of skilled maintenance tasks including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and other related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision and reports to the Assistant Director, Housing Facilities.
Duties will include:
Carpentry - Repair trim, doors, refinish, and hang doors. - Frame in new walls and re-frame old walls. - Repair furniture and paneling.
Electrical - Most aspects of electrical work including, replacing switches, outlets, and fixtures. - Installing new fixtures tracing circuits to locate problems. - Running new wires for added electrical draw on outlets and fixtures. - Installing and repairing exit signs and other safety equipment (GFCI outlets, safety lights). - Reading blueprints to trace lines and circuits.
Plumbing - All aspects of plumbing work including, minor repairs, drips, and leaks, minor stoppages, mainline stoppages, major leaks, broken pipes, replacing and patching vent pipes, operating large auguring machines, soldering copper pipe and tubing. - Installing new fixtures and repairing old ones. - Using caustic chemicals. - Reading blueprints to locate supply, drain, and vent pipes.
Miscellaneous - Installing network wire, minor computer trouble-shooting, drywall repair, tile repair, video surveillance camera and monitor repair, tool and equipment maintenance and repair. - Maintain tool and parts inventory. - Painting and color matching, communicating with suppliers, co-workers, students, parents, and administrative staff. - Moving furniture. - Filling out institutional paperwork, electronic communication. - Supervising part-time workers and student workers. - Assisting university administrators and disabled students to ensure that the accommodations we provide meet their specific needs. Call Back Schedule - Required to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to participate in a call back schedule to repair emergency maintenance problems. - Happens on revolving schedule the length of which is determined by the number of current full-time staff in department.
Required Education
High School diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE) required.
Required Related Experience
One (1) year of maintenance experience in building and/or plant maintenance involving a variety of work such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, and masonry required or completion of a standard apprenticeship in carpentry, plumbing, or electrical required.
