Job Summary/Basic Function

The director is responsible to manage and coordinate the MTSU Home & Community Based Early Interventionist program. Essential tasks include: 1) Assign families to the early interventionists (teachers) who provide regular home or community based services to children: birth to three years old, with disabilities and their families; 2) Communicate with families as they begin receiving early intervention services through the MTSU Home & Community Based Early Intervention Program; 3) Work collaboratively with the South Central district office of Tennessee's Early Intervention System to coordinate the timely delivery of early intervention services when children are determined eligible; 4) Provide mentoring and training for early interventionist teachers based on a) needs identified by the early interventionists or determined through observation and b) advances in the field of early intervention, and 5) Provide problem resolution with the early interventionist teachers and/or families when they require help with addressing child or family goals. This position is contingent upon continued annual funding.

Required Education

A baccalaureate or advanced degree in early childhood special education, early childhood education, child and family studies (child development), early intervention, deaf education or visual disabilities, special education k-12, elementary education, communication disorders and speech language pathology or related field. Related field means a degree in social work, infant mental health, nursing, psychology, education administration, and sociology.

Required Related Experience

Three (3) years progressively responsible work experience with young children and their families OR with related field degree, a minimum of three (3) years documented experience working with children with disabilities 0-5 years of age and their families.

Required License/Registration/Certification

Driver's License, automobile insurance, CPR and First Aid, TBI Background check

Desirable Related Experience

Prior experience supervising or mentoring staff. Prior experience providing home visits to families with young children or related work supporting/working with both children and families.

Desirable License/Registration/Certification

Advanced degree in the field of early childhood special education, early childhood education, child and family studies (child development), early intervention disabilities, special education k-12, elementary education and other fields as listed in required education.
