Job Description

The Department of Chemistry at Middle Tennessee State University invites applications for an Organic Chemistry Laboratory Instructional Coordinator faculty position (#104450). This is a non-tenure track faculty position with a start date of January 1, 2018.

MTSU is a large public institution and offers ACS-certified degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry.

We are seeking an individual with a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level that will involve coordination and development of labs, GTA supervision and training, and teaching responsibilities.

The job will consist of teaching chemistry lectures and labs (approx. 50% time commitment) and coordinating organic chemistry lab sections (remainder of time commitment). Coordination duties will cover 12-16 sections each semester of Organic Chemistry I, Organic Chemistry II, and our 1-semester Organic course.

Coordination duties include:
—laboratory preparation, maintenance of organic labs and chemical supplies, general troubleshooting, and problem resolution;
—supervision of graduate teaching assistants who teach organic chemistry laboratory;
—familiarity with established organic laboratory procedures;
—experimental development and refinement of procedures;
—curriculum development for updating organic laboratories and assistance in developing new laboratories and courses;
—maintenance of course materials, grades, and records;
—production of videos for lab technique demonstrations;
—distribution of lab grades to lecture professors for final grade reporting.

PhD in Chemistry

Minimum of three years college teaching experience
