Job Description

Duties include tuning, regulating and voicing approximately 60 newer Steinway instruments, primarily in the School of Music; managing the keyboard inventory (pianos and harpsichords) for the School and University; monitoring the wear and tear on instruments to insure longevity of the inventory; managing the keyboard maintenance budget; in house and contracting out of restoration work. Potential to develop and teach a survey course in keyboard technology for keyboard and other majors. Tuning and regulating may require evening and weekend hours during the concert season.

Required Educational Qualifications and Field of Study

Bachelor’s degree required, however a high school diploma or high school equivalency and seven (7) years directly related work experience may be considered in lieu of the bachelor’s degree.

Required Year(s) and Type of Work Experience

Three (3) years experience in piano technology required.

Preferred Year(s) and Type of Work Experience Required

Six (6) years experience in piano technology preferred.
Experience in management of a keyboard inventory at a college or university preferred.
Experience installing genuine Steinway parts preferred.
Experience with Steinway factory training courses.

Certificates/ Licenses Preferred

Registered Piano Technician certification and/or Residence School Certificate is preferred.
