Job Description

The Director Equestrian Programs is responsible to develop, lead, direct, and administer the academic and extracurricular equestrian programs at MTSU. The Director will plan, develop, and teach beginner to advanced horse riding in hunter seat and western horsemanship, equine behavior and training, and techniques of equestrian teaching courses, including laboratories and supporting activities in the Horse Science program. The Director will evaluate and develop safe and useful horses for classes and support other Horse Science faculty in areas of expertise. Maintain a safe environment for students, horses, and staff; coach the Intercollegiate Equestrian Team; provide lessons and travel with the team to weekend horse shows. Host and manage Intercollegiate Horse Shows at MTSU; produce appropriate public service programs; provide industry support in areas of expertise and perform other related tasks and special projects as assigned.

Required Educational Qualifications and Field of Study

Master’s degree in Horse Science, Animal Science or a related field required.

Required Year(s) and Type of Work Experience

Five (5) years’ progressively responsible experience teaching horsemanship required.

Preferred Year(s) and Type of Work Experience Required

Proven success coaching competition riders strongly preferred.

Certificates/ Licenses Preferred

Certified Horsemanship Association Level 3 or higher instructor certification in both hunter seat and western, or equivalent certification, is strongly preferred.

Salary Range $60,694 - $77,182; commensurate with experience
