Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Health and Human Performance at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant/associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2023. The position is contingent upon funding.
Duties include teaching, mentorship, athletic training program administration, service, and research. The minimum expectations include collaboration with the athletic training program director to meet and maintain compliance with all the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) accreditation standards. In addition, the successful candidate will instruct athletic training students and incorporate current athletic training professional knowledge, skills, and abilities as it pertains to their teaching areas. The successful candidate will also incorporate various teaching and educational methods in delivering athletic training content. They will also be involved in service at the department, college, and university levels and engaged in professional and community organizations. The development of a clinical or applied research agenda with potential for external funding is expected.
The successful candidate will have contemporary expertise in at least one of the following specialty areas: rehabilitation, manual therapies, and alternative techniques; organizational, ethical, and legal issues; psychosocial and cultural diversity; pathology, general medical and pharmacology; evidence-based practice and research methods; therapeutic modalities; kinesiology and biomechanics; evaluation and assessment; and global medicine and outreach.
Required Education
Research-based Doctorate (e.g., Ph.D., EdD) in Athletic Training or a related field (e.g., kinesiology, exercise science, etc.) or a clinical doctorate in athletic training (DAT) or physical therapy (DPT) is required.
Required Related Experience
Three or more years of clinical, academic, or professional experience as a certified athletic trainer
Required License/Registration/Certification
Board of Certification Credential (ATC®)
Tennessee Athletic Training license obtained by appointment date
Other Desirables
• Teaching experience within a professional or post-professional Athletic Training program or other types of educational experiences
• Familiarity with CAATE accreditation standards
• Certified instructor for emergency cardiac care (American Red Cross) or equivalent (e.g., BLS Healthcare Provider, AHA)
• Credentialed in one or more of the following areas – Physical Therapy, Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Performance Enhancement Specialist or Certified Personal Trainer, or other therapy specialty certifications
