Job Summary/Basic Function

Middle Tennessee State University seeks candidates for the position (#115280) of Vice Provost for Academic Programs (VPAP). Start date for the position is January 1, 2022. This is a 12-month position. Candidates must be eligible for appointment as a tenured associate professor or professor in an academic discipline offered by the university. Expedited tenure will be considered at the time of appointment.

Reporting to the University Provost, the VPAP is responsible for academic program and curricular innovation and excellence. The VPAP will facilitate development and management of academic programs; develop and provide oversight for implementation of academic and curricular policy and procedures; and initiate and provide oversight for the creation of innovative, interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate academic programs. The VPAP represents new programs to and secures their approval by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, coordinates the University's participation in the Academic Common Market, and provides leadership and oversight for the University's General Education program.

The candidate is expected to have a strong record of instructional and scholarly success; in-depth knowledge of higher education trends; best practices in academic program/curriculum development, transfer articulation, and cooperative/consortial academic arrangements; and academic planning to include budget, staffing, facility, and equipment needs.

The successful candidate will have a commitment to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in all academic planning and implementation; lead and collaborate in academic program innovation and excellence; create effective working relationships with diverse constituencies; and resolve problems and issues.

Required Education

Earned terminal degree from an accredited institution.

Required Related Experience

Three years full-time administrative experience in higher education at the chair level or above OR three years academic program administrative experience at a higher education agency.

Other Desirables

Candidates with experience in development and implementation of new undergraduate and/or graduate academic programs and curricula, as well as those with experience in oversight of undergraduate and/or graduate academic programs and curricula will receive special consideration.
