Job Summary/Basic Function

The School of Music at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty position (#131100) at the rank of Lecturer in Bassoon and Academic Studies. This is a one year appointment. Start date for the position is August 1, 2021. Position contingent upon funding.

The successful candidate will:

  • Demonstrate performance experience in solo, chamber music, and orchestral settings.
  • Teach applied bassoon to undergraduate and graduate students, including a weekly studio class.
  • Teach bassoon methods, literature and pedagogy.
  • Conduct/coach woodwind chamber ensembles.
  • Assist with large instrumental ensembles.
  • Maintain bassoon repair and reed-making equipment.
  • Perform as a soloist, with faculty colleagues, and with visiting artists.
  • Teach core undergraduate required courses in music theory or closely related subjects.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Music

Applicants who possess a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Performance will receive special consideration. Also, those who show evidence of successful bassoon teaching at the college/university level will receive special consideration.

In ADDITION, applicants are required to provide a video of performing (minimum of 20 minutes) submitted as Other Document 1 and a video of teaching an applied bassoon lesson submitted as Other Document 2.
