Job Summary/Basic Function
The School of Music at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty position (#131100) at the rank of Lecturer in Bassoon and Academic Studies. This is a one year appointment. Start date for the position is August 1, 2021. Position contingent upon funding.
The successful candidate will:
- Demonstrate performance experience in solo, chamber music, and orchestral settings.
- Teach applied bassoon to undergraduate and graduate students, including a weekly studio class.
- Teach bassoon methods, literature and pedagogy.
- Conduct/coach woodwind chamber ensembles.
- Assist with large instrumental ensembles.
- Maintain bassoon repair and reed-making equipment.
- Perform as a soloist, with faculty colleagues, and with visiting artists.
- Teach core undergraduate required courses in music theory or closely related subjects.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Music
Master of Music
Applicants who possess a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Performance will receive special consideration. Also, those who show evidence of successful bassoon teaching at the college/university level will receive special consideration.
