Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty position (#129230) at the rank of lecturer in anthropology and archaeology. This is a one-year temporary appointment. The contract may be renewed annually based on available funding, demonstrated need, and satisfactory performance as assessed by annual evaluations. The start date for the appointment is August 1, 2025.
We seek a southeastern U.S. archaeologist (pre-contact or historic) who can teach multiple online and on-ground sections of our general education World Prehistory course and one or more additional classes in their area of expertise. These may include existing courses (Southeastern Archaeology, Tennessee Archaeology, North American Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, or Sunken Continents—a critique of pseudoarchaeology) or a special topics course in the candidate’s specialty area (e.g., GIS, lithic analysis, pottery analysis, cultural resource management). The successful candidate is expected to teach five undergraduate courses each semester.
Required Education
A master's degree in anthropology or a closely related field or a master's degree with at least 18 hours of graduate work in the anthropology discipline is required by the appointment date.
Other Desirables
Applicants with a terminal degree or who are ABD in anthropology or a closely related field will receive special consideration. In addition, those with expertise in southeastern U.S. archaeology (pre-contact or historic), experience teaching undergraduate anthropology or archaeology courses will receive special consideration.
