Job Summary/Basic Function

The ACEJMC-accredited School of Journalism and Strategic Media (SoJSM) at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty position (#143060) at the rank of lecturer. This is a one-year temporary appointment with a possible annual renewal for up to three years. The start date for the appointment is August 1, 2024.

The successful candidate will help our growing school by teaching introductory courses in digital media skills, media design, or other media-related areas, as the School of Journalism and Strategic Media needs.

Required Education

A master's degree in journalism, broadcast journalism, mass communication, a communication or media-related field, or an MFA, MS, or MA in art, design, graphic design, visual communication, or another closely related field is required by the appointment date. A bachelor's degree with ten (10) years of professional experience in journalism, broadcasting, media design, or other closely related fields may be considered in lieu of a master's degree.

Required Related Experience

Two (2) years of professional media experience are required with a graduate degree, and ten (10) years of professional media experience are required with a bachelor's degree.

Other Desirables

Applicants with previous teaching experience, professional media experience to teach multiple SoJSM courses, expertise in the area of sports media or sports broadcasting (photography skills; audio recording and editing experience; video shooting and editing experience), and those with digital media or design skills (Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop for print and digital media production) will receive special consideration. In addition, applicants with professional experience in a newsroom or agency or those who have served in an internal communications role will receive special consideration.
