Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a coordinator-track faculty position (#130450) at the rank of instructor in lighting. The start date for the position is as early as August 8, 2022. The position is contingent upon funding.

The successful candidate will teach studio and academic courses such as Lighting Technology, Lighting Design, and Introduction to Theatre. The successful candidate will also serve as Master Electrician for the departmental production season of 6-8 mainstage theatre and dance productions annually; supervise and mentor lighting technology and design students; coordinate and oversee the execution of all MTSU Theatre and Dance lighting needs; maintain theatre lighting facilities and equipment inventory. Additional opportunities for teaching lighting design or designing for the production season may be available. Secondary focus in rigging, projection design/technology, or a related area is helpful.

Required Education

A master's degree in Theatre or a field closely related to the area of instruction(s) is required. A bachelor’s degree in Theatre or a closely related field with five (5) years of directly related industry experience in lighting may be considered.in lieu of the master's degree.

Other Desirables

Applicants with previous university teaching experience in lighting will receive special consideration.
