Job Summary/Basic Function

The College of Behavioral and Health Sciences at Middle Tennessee State University invites applications for a Director of Didactic Education for the Physician Assistant Program. This is a 12-month, clinical-track (non-tenurable) faculty position at the assistant/associate professor rank. The start date for this position may be as early as March 1, 2022.

The University seeks an innovative Director of Didactic Education with strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills, and a collaborative work ethic. The Director of Didactic Education will report directly to the Physician Assistant Program Director and must be team-oriented and possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills. The Director of Didactic Education will be responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing the development and implementation of the didactic phase of the Physician Assistant Program that meets the needs of the State of Tennessee and the profession.

The Director of Didactic Education will participate in the organization, administration, continuous review and analysis, planning, development, and participation in the accreditation process of the Physician Assistant Program. This includes maintaining ARC-PA accreditation. Duties include ensuring that the didactic phase of the program guarantees the PA students are ready to enter the supervised clinical practice experiences, leading students through their didactic educational experience, coordinating didactic principal and instructional faculty, and supporting ARC-PA compliance and self-study related to the didactic curriculum, maintaining accreditation standards, and engaging in open, collaborative and collegial interactions with the Program Director, Medical Director, faculty and staff.

Required Education

Master’s level Physician Assistant degree from an ARC-PA accredited program

Required Related Experience

Five years of experience in a clinical practice setting as well as at least one year of higher education experience in a Physician Assistant Master’s program.

Required License/Registration/Certification

Applicants must be a Physician Assistant with current NCCPA certification and hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the State of Tennessee.

Other Desirables

Applicants who possess a doctoral degree in a related field, or willingness to pursue a degree, and those with Physician Assistant didactic education coordination or director experience will receive special consideration.
