Job Summary/Basic Function

The School of Music (Bassoon and Academic Studies) at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#131100) at the rank of assistant/associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2022. The position is contingent upon funding.

The successful candidate will:

  • Demonstrate evidence of successful bassoon teaching at the college/university level.
  • Demonstrate performance experience in solo, chamber music, and orchestral settings.
  • Teach applied bassoon to undergraduate and graduate students, including a weekly studio class.
  • Teach bassoon methods, literature, and pedagogy.
  • Conduct/coach woodwind chamber ensembles.
  • Assist with large instrumental ensembles.
  • Maintain bassoon repair and reed-making equipment.
  • Perform as a soloist, with faculty colleagues, and with visiting artists.
  • Actively recruit bassoon students for undergraduate and graduate music degree programs.
  • Teach core undergraduate required courses in music theory or closely related subjects.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Music.

Required Education

Terminal degree in Music or Musical Arts
