Job Summary/Basic Function
The Career Advisor will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to reach MTSU students and alumni with high-quality career education through multi-faceted educational initiatives that meet the needs of the students and campus partners.
Develop, organize, and implement career educational programming with an emphasis on 1:1 appointments, classroom presentations, and group sessions either in person or online.
Advise students in selecting and defining a career path and developing internship and job search skills necessary for their chosen field.
Proactively seek opportunities for outreach and collaboration with academic advisors, faculty, internship coordinators, administrative departments, the Writing Center, and student organizations to elevate career conversations on campus and ultimately help students find career success upon graduation. This person will regularly interact with career center staff, students, faculty, prospective students, alumni, and employer representatives.
The Career Advisor will engage with small and large events as necessary to connect students to industry and support the overall work of the Career Development Center. The Career Advisor will be responsible for frequent and consistent communication with students via verbal and written communication.
Work schedule includes occasional attendance at night and weekend events. The advisor will perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Master's degree completed or Bachelor's degree with Master's in progress.
Required Related Experience
Two years of progressively responsible, related work experience in higher education, counseling, human resources or other related field.
Desirable Related Experience
Experience in advising, training, recruiting, or human resources either in higher education or industry preferred. Experience developing and marketing educational/training programs and advising students/employees on career-related issues preferred. Experience administering and interpreting online and written career assessment instruments preferred.
Certification in Strong Interest Inventory and Myers Briggs Type Indicator.
